Overview and
Goals
- MIRC of NCTU was established in 1984 to explore
andperform long-range collaborative research in microelectronics
and information systems
- to coordinate interdisciplinary research at NCTU
on advanced projects in the area of microelectronics and information
systems
- to promote the cooperation between academic institutions
and industries
- to educate outstanding graduate students in the
aforementioned fields

Introduction
In the early 1980s, the Executive Yuan,
the highest administrative branch of the R.O.C. government, implemented
a program under which four advanced research centers were established
on four national university campuses around Taiwan. The purpose of
such a program is to recruit and cultivate talents in advanced sciences
and technology. National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) was selected
to oversee research and development in microelectronics and computer
science under the auspices of this program. This led to the founding
of the Microelectronics and Information Systems Research Center (MIRC)
at NCTU in July 1984.
MIRC's mission is threefold: to coordinate
interdepartmental research at NCTU on advanced projects in the area
of microelectronics and information systems, to promote academic and
industrial cooperations, and to pursue excellency in graduate research
in the aforementioned fields.
