NCTU/CISCO Internetworking Technology Lab

Goals
NCTU/CISCO internetworking technology lab was founded by Cisco Systems, Inc in National Chiao Tung University. The purpose in setting up this lab is to transfer high tech internet technologies back to Taiwan and, on the other hand, to increase the competitiveness of Cisco internet products with NCTU researchers.

Members
NCTU/CISCO internetworking technology lab is currently conducted by Dr. Shiuh-pyng Shieh, also chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. Other full time researchers are distinguished graduates from prestigious universities like NCTU, NTU and NTHU.

Facilities
There is a network telephone system in the lab, serving as testbed at current stage. This system incorporates an automatic operating system, connecting to Chinese Telecom and NCTU extension network.

Researches
In founding this lab, Cisco Systems, Inc. develops new system software in a local market and emits its core techniques such as IOS operating system for the first time. Currently, the research emphasis lies in analyzing voice quality transmitting through internet. In the future, the emphasis will be shifted to image qualities. This cooperation between Cisco and NCTU will promote internetworking technologies in Taiwan to an international level. Besides researches, this lab will carry out technical services, technical consultation and technical trainings in the future. Technical service will focus on tests in unity, safety, effects and operation interchangeability of Cisco products. Technical consultation provides consultant services for industries. Technical training offers training courses for engineers in related areas. With the combination of academic researches and internetworking technologies, this lab is expected to push forward Taiwanˇ¦s research ability on internet system tools.
